Because It’s There Weaving our way under a canopy of Redwood trees, past red dirt wineries, and barbed wire prairies, just outside of Boonville where the grade is 8 1/2 on a snake-like curve we listened to Hedges' “Because it’s There.” I tried my best not to daydream, focused deeply on not swerving. One free-spirited kid from Enid was already lost out here.
This is a throwback poem from a previously published book. I’ll be posting throwbacks every Wednesday.
A poem about a journey through Boonville, thinking of Michael Hedges, who died out there, and with whom I share a hometown.
