How Should A Poet Live? I shall remain drunk on poetry until my mind, enraptured by language, imagines splendid existences heretofore thought impossible and seeks to enact them. As I look upon thee with a twinkle in my eye, my soul renewed by your presence, I shall sway like a reed until I feel free, for my prayer shall move me in the direction of my dreams. My feet shall set out on pathways of righteous rebellion in the name of all that is just and joyful, fulfilling the intentions of a life unconfined, self-defined, and sublime. And I shall stay stoned on song, singing soulfully, as my spirit rises to dance in praise, as my fists in protest raise that all could such a heaven taste.
This is a throwback poem from a previously published book. I’ll be posting throwbacks every Wednesday.
